Papperoni (papperoni.com.br) is a small, invite-only app for keeping track of academic papers: what you read, your lists, notes and PDFs. It is run by Arthur Kamienski. This page says what it keeps about you and why.

What Papperoni keeps

  • Your Google account's email, name and picture, when you sign in with Google. The email decides whether you were invited; the name and picture show on your account and on lists you make public.
  • What you put in it: papers and PDFs you add, read dates, ratings, reviews, notes, highlights, tags, lists, and your chats with the paper assistant.
  • An access request: the email you leave on the front page, until you are invited or the request is dismissed.
  • Feedback you send from the app.
  • Usage counts: per person and day, which kinds of pages were opened and how many changes were made (never which papers), so the app can be improved. Views of public lists are counted once a day per viewer, with a random id for people not signed in; no IP addresses are stored.
  • Your time zone, so “today” is your day.

What other people see

Your reading, notes, PDFs and lists are yours alone. A list you make public shows its name, your display name and its papers to anyone with the link. Papers' titles, authors, abstracts, summaries and references are shared by everyone using Papperoni.

Google user data

Signing in asks Google only for your email address and basic profile (name and picture), used as described above. Papperoni does not ask anyone but its owner for access to Google Drive; the owner's Drive access is used only to put copies of their own PDFs in a folder of their Drive. Papperoni's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Google user data is never sold, used for advertising, or used to train AI models.

Services that handle it

  • Hosting: Google Cloud (the server and database, in the United States), Vercel (the website, and anonymous page view counts through Vercel Web Analytics) and Cloudflare (network protection).
  • AI models: the text of PDFs you add, and your messages to the paper assistant, are sent to AI model providers to read titles, authors and references, write summaries and answer you. They are not used to train models where the provider offers that choice.
  • Email: Resend sends the emails Papperoni sends (an invitation, a note to admins about an access request).

Nothing is sold or shared for advertising, and there are no ads or third-party trackers.

Cookies

Papperoni uses only the cookies it needs: one that keeps you signed in, one for your time zone, one used briefly while signing in with Google, and, for people not signed in on a public list, a random id so views are counted once a day.

Keeping and deleting it

Your data is kept while you have an account. Ask, and your account and everything personal in it (reading data, notes, PDFs, lists, chats) will be deleted; papers' shared details stay. Backups are overwritten within a few weeks.
